Welcome to the fall semester!
Even though the Extension’s doors are temporarily closed, the team is still actively attending to the Milpitas community as we find new ways to serve.
This fall we’re beginning our Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Pathway in our dual enrollment program with Milpitas High School. Thirty-one MHS 11th graders will start the two-year program, taking two San Jose City College courses per semester. All of the courses transfer to the CSU and UC systems as general education units. This means that the students will graduate high school with 24 transferable college units—almost a full year!
Plus, this fall the students will be taking GUIDE 130: College Life and Success and KIN 10: Sports in Society. I think the students and instructors will be having some great discussions! If you have any questions regarding the program, please reach out to me or Karisa Scott, the MUSD educator leading the program.
As always, MHS and CHHS students are welcome to take SJCC courses during the fall at no cost through concurrent enrollment. This fall 60+ Milpitas high school students are taking at least one regular SJCC course online. If you’re interested in knowing more, please reach out to Michael Castro, our Admissions and Records Coordinator.
The Extension will be serving MUSD this fall by opening its classrooms as study hubs for 8th-12th-grade students. We hope to serve up to 90 students per day by providing a place to go after school for focusing on schoolwork. We have lots of space and excellent Wi-Fi access. More details to follow.
Also, Ben Grainger, our Academic Counselor, and Michael Castro are offering drop-in Zoom hours during the week. Please click on this link for details: https://www.sjccxmilpitas.com/zoom-office-hours.
We have other exciting things on the table, so I might have more to share next month. Until then, stay safe and well!
